Failing Government Energy Scheme

Turnaround of multiple government energy schemes CESP, CERT

Project at a glance

  • Tier 1 global utility
  • Government regulated
  • Performance improvement
  • £1m margin increase
  • Successful turnaround

Problem

Our client, a regulated globally recognisable utility company had been tasked to deliver a Community Energy Savings Programme (CESP) valued at £100m. The scheme was underperforming and required an intervention by the business before the Government intervened causing public embarrassment.

The turnaround programme needed to be delivered at pace to bring the scheme back under control operationally and financially.

Williams Bain supplied an Interim Programme Director that had worked for us previously in another client and had proven his ability to drive improvements whilst leading in a calm and resilient way.

Approach

  • Programme leadership that brought the scheme under control
  • Liaised with Gov and Ops to ensure clear communication
  • Drive process improvement and SOP’s
  • Delivered financial savings at the same time

Results

  • £1m in additional profit

  • Operational improvements
  • Standard operating procedures
  • Strong governance plan
